Short answer: Hair colour correction is the work of taking out, or evening up, colour already sitting in your hair before a new shade goes on. At Nhat Tam Hair Salon in Hanoi, colour removal (tách màu) is 1,000,000 VND, lifting a level (nâng tone) is 500,000 VND, and a full fashion colour including the cut runs from 1,560,000 VND after the booking and check in discounts. Black box dye, orange banding and years of home colour usually need two or three sittings. You are quoted before anything is mixed.
What hair colour correction actually means
A normal colour service puts pigment onto hair close to its natural state. A correction starts from hair already carrying someone else’s work: a home kit, a holiday salon, a shade refreshed every six weeks for two years. That old pigment has to come out first, and it is the part that takes the time.

Is correction the same thing as bleaching?
No, although bleach is often one of the tools. Bleach lifts your natural pigment; a colour remover lifts the artificial pigment a previous dye left behind. Many corrections start with removal, because bleach over old dye lifts unevenly and costs the hair more.
What is banding, and why does it happen?
Banding is the stripe you see when the mid lengths read darker or warmer than the roots and ends. It comes from colour applied over colour: fresh pigment at the roots, stacked layers in the middle, porous ends that grab too much. Each band is a different level, so each needs a different strength of product. Why the ends grab harder than the roots is a porosity question, and our guide to hair porosity and color results explains how we read it before mixing.
The three problems we see most often
Clients who come to us for correction almost always arrive with one of these three.
Black box dye that will not lift
Supermarket black is built to last and deposits far more pigment than a salon formula at the same level. Removing it reveals the warm pigment underneath dark hair, so the first pass often lands on red or copper. That is why we do not promise a cool shade on day one.

Orange and brassy ends after a home kit
Home kits lift, but rarely carry enough toning power for Asian hair, which holds a lot of warmth. The ends then read orange in daylight. This group is the quickest to help: the pigment is already out, so the job is mainly tone.
Hair that went darker with every refresh
If you have covered roots at home for a year or two, the ends have absorbed colour repeatedly. The hair looks flat and reads darker than the box said. Correction here means taking depth back out of the lengths so the head reads as one level.
What one visit can realistically do
How many levels can come out safely in one sitting
On healthy hair that has not been straightened recently, two to three levels in one sitting is a sensible target. Pushing further in a single day is where hair starts to feel soft and stretchy when wet, and a conditioner does not undo that.

When the honest answer is two or three visits
Black dye on long hair, a box colour reapplied many times, or any plan ending in pastel or silver: these are multi session routes, two to four weeks apart. If you are in Hanoi only a few days, say so and we aim for a shade that is finished now.
How a correction is quoted
A correction is built from individual services rather than one flat package, because no two heads arrive in the same state.
The published prices a plan is built from
Colour removal (tách màu) is 1,000,000 VND, lifting a level (nâng tone) is 500,000 VND, highlighting is 1,000,000 VND, and a root touch up is 300,000 or 500,000 VND depending on the area and the product. A fashion colour combo including the cut is listed at 2,600,000 VND, or 1,560,000 VND after discounts, rising to 3,500,000 VND and 2,100,000 VND on long hair. Balayage and ombre start at 3,800,000 VND, or 2,280,000 VND after discounts. Booking ahead takes 30 percent off and checking in at the salon another 10 percent. Every service is listed in our Hanoi salon price guide for foreign visitors.

Why a correction is not priced like a normal colour
Two clients can ask for the same shade and need different work: one a single removal, the other removal plus a lift and a toner. We quote after looking at your hair and testing it, and if a second session is needed you know at the start.
What we check before we start
The strand test
We take a small section underneath at the back and run the planned product on it. It shows how fast your hair releases pigment, what tone appears underneath, and whether the hair can take the process. It adds twenty minutes to the appointment.
Your chemical history for the last year
Tell us about every chemical service in the last twelve months, including anything done at home. Straightening, perming, keratin and henna all change how hair behaves under a lightener. Henna in particular can react badly, so if you have used it we test before committing.

When we say no, and what we suggest instead
We decline when the strand test shows fragile hair, when the gap since the last chemical service is too short, or when your target cannot be reached without damage we are not willing to cause. Instead we offer a warmer target, or a conditioning route first. Our page on a damaged hair treatment options in Hanoi covers that, with keratin from 900,000 VND.
Living with corrected hair
The first two weeks
Leave 48 hours before the first wash, then use cool water and a sulfate free shampoo. Keep heat tools off the highest setting. Skip the swimming pool for two weeks: chlorine pulls toner out quickly and can shift a cool shade green.
Keeping the tone from turning brassy again
Warmth returns as the toner washes out, sooner on lifted Asian hair than most people expect. A colour depositing conditioner in your tone family, once a week, holds the result longer. Most clients book a toner refresh every six to eight weeks rather than redoing the colour.

Booking a correction while you are in Hanoi
Send photographs before you arrive: your hair in daylight, the roots, the ends, and the shade you want. Tell us the brand and level of anything used at home. If your schedule allows, book the consultation on a separate day so the strand test has time to work. English support is available at all four branches, and our guide to choosing a Hanoi hair salon you can trust shows how other visitors checked us first.
FAQ: hair colour correction in Hanoi
Can you remove black box dye in one session?
Some of it, yes. Black down to a clean brown is often possible in one sitting. Black to blonde or to a pastel is normally two or three sittings, because the warm pigment underneath is lifted and neutralised in stages.
How much does hair colour correction cost in Hanoi?
It depends which services your hair needs. Colour removal is 1,000,000 VND, lifting a level is 500,000 VND, and a full fashion colour with the cut starts at 1,560,000 VND after discounts. You receive the total before work begins.
Will a correction damage my hair?
Any lightening process affects the hair structure. We limit that by testing first, lifting in stages, and refusing plans that go too far in one day. Bond protection and a conditioning treatment are built into the appointment.
Can you fix a colour another salon started?
Yes, that is a large part of this work. Bring whatever you know about what was used. We will not comment on the other salon, only on what your hair can take now and what it will cost.
Is an English speaking colourist available?
Yes. Ask for English support when you book, and we use swatch rings and photographs for anything words do not settle. More on shades is in our guide to fashion hair colour in Hanoi and our overview of hair colour ideas in Hanoi.
Is there a warranty on colour?
Colour and bleaching carry a 30 day warranty, perming and straightening 90 days. Come back inside that window and we adjust the result with you at no charge.
Book a colour consultation
If you are carrying a colour you are not happy with, start with a consultation rather than an appointment. It is free, takes about fifteen minutes plus the strand test, and you leave knowing the target, the number of sittings and the cost. Call or message Nhat Tam Hair Salon, and say it is a correction so we set aside enough time. If blonde is the goal, our page on blonde hair, bleaching and toning in Hanoi explains that route.
