Unique Hairstyles in Hanoi: Statement Cuts for Women

Direct answer: A statement hairstyle is a shape with a decision inside it: a strong fringe, a disconnected length, a carved face frame, or colour placed to shape the cut rather than only change its colour. At Nhat Tam in Hanoi a women’s design cut is 250,000 VND, or 150,000 VND with an advance booking and check in, and you are told before anything is cut whether the shape will hold on your hair.

Six shapes we cut often for women in Hanoi: who each suits, what it costs, how it grows out, and when we would say wait. For the standard versions see the layers by length, from medium-length to long and the bob and short haircut guide.

What makes a haircut a statement, not just short

Cutting length off is not the same as cutting a shape. A statement cut is built from four variables. A stylist who can name all four is the one you want holding the scissors.

  • Weight placement. Move the heaviest part up and the shape lifts; move it down and it falls.
  • Disconnection. The gap between shortest and longest sections. Wide reads as deliberate, narrow as a trim.
  • The face frame. The first 10 centimetres around the face do most of the visible work.
  • Colour placement. Light at the cheekbone or a layer edge makes a cut look sharper than the cut alone can.

Two or more used on purpose is a statement. None of them is a tidy haircut, which costs the same.

Six signature shapes, and who each one suits

Long layers with a soft curtain fringe

Heavy internal layering starting at the cheekbone, so the hair opens away from the face and keeps length at the back. Suits medium to thick hair that holds a blow dry. Less suited to fine hair, where the ends look sparse once weight comes out.

A full fringe on long hair

The highest impact change available without losing length. Works on most face shapes if the width is cut to your own forehead, not to a photo. Two cautions: it needs styling on humid Hanoi days, and trimming every three to four weeks. Travelling for months? Say so and we cut it longer.

A shoulder length shag with flicked ends

Short internal layers plus a see through fringe, ends encouraged outward. The most forgiving statement shape: it looks intentional even when it is not freshly styled. Suits straight and slightly wavy hair; on tightly curly hair the same cut behaves differently, which the curly and wavy hair guide explains.

A chin length bob with a deep side part

The shortest shape here, and the one with least room for a change of mind. A deep side part adds root volume and makes the bob read as a choice rather than a convenient length. Very fine, straight hair needs a root volume perm or daily styling to hold the lift.

A carved face frame, lit where the cut turns

Where cut and colour stop being separate services. A lighter section landing exactly where the face framing layer begins makes that layer visible from a distance. Done badly it is a stripe; done properly the eye reads shape, not colour. The fashion colour guide covers what each starting level allows.

Asymmetric and disconnected shapes

One side shorter, or a clear step between the top section and the length. The most individual option and the most dependent on condition: a hard line only stays sharp on ends that are not split or over processed.

How much change your hair can take in one visit

Your hair today Shape you want In one visit? What we would do
Healthy, mid back Long layers, curtain fringe Yes One sitting, 60 to 90 minutes
Any length, never had a fringe Full fringe Yes, decided last Cut at the end, on dry hair
One length to the shoulder Shag with flicked ends Yes Internal layers, see through fringe
Mid back, healthy ends Chin length bob Yes The decision is length, not technique
Dark base, never lightened Carved face frame, lighter Usually not Lightening is a separate service and plan
Bleached or box dyed ends Asymmetric, hard disconnection Depends on condition Damaged ends will not hold a hard line

Six questions, and what to bring

  1. How much length am I prepared to lose if the shape does not sit right?
  2. How many minutes will I give this every morning, honestly?
  3. Should the shape be obvious, or look like my hair grows that way?
  4. Any wedding, photoshoot or interview in the next six weeks?
  5. What did I dislike about my last haircut, in my own words?
  6. Is anything chemical planned in the next three months?

The last two change the cut more than any reference photo does. Bring two or three references including one you dislike, a daylight photo of your unstyled hair, your chemical history for the last year, and your glasses if you wear them: they change where a fringe sits.

The grow out plan

  • Weeks 0 to 6. Sharpest phase. A full fringe needs its first trim around week three or four; the rest is styling only.
  • Weeks 6 to 12. Layers soften and the face frame drops about two centimetres. Usually the most wearable phase, not the worst. A disconnected shape closes up here first.
  • Month three and after. Restore the shape, or let it become a longer layered cut. They are different cuts, so say which you want at the booking.

When we ask you to wait rather than cut

Some things are not achievable on the day, and we say so rather than hand you a result you regret.

  • Ends that stretch and do not spring back when wet. A hard disconnection frays within two weeks.
  • A lighter face frame on a dark base, asked for at the end of a cut. Lightening needs its own slot, sometimes more than one.
  • A chin length bob on hair you want long for a wedding in three months. The arithmetic does not work.
  • A reference photo of hair with a different density from yours. We show you the nearest shape that behaves that way.

Prices, time and corrections

A women’s design cut is 250,000 VND, and 150,000 VND when you book ahead and check in. That covers the wash, cut, blow dry styling and a photo of the result, and is free when you book a perm or straightening. A fringe or root volume perm is 400,000 VND, or 500,000 VND for the VIP range. If your shape needs lightening, highlights are 1,000,000 VND, a tone lift 500,000 VND, and fashion colour starts at 1,560,000 VND, balayage and ombre from 2,280,000 VND. Every rate is on the price list.

Allow 60 to 90 minutes for a cut and styling, and a separate day if lightening is involved. A cut is adjusted free within 30 days; perms and straightening carry a 90 day warranty, colour and bleach 30 days.

Where to see unedited results

Statement shapes are hard to judge from a campaign photo, so look at ordinary work in volume. Measured 6 October 2026, our public accounts carry roughly 2,286,000 followers across 15 accounts: 1,289,238 on TikTok, led by @nhattamsalon.vn with 974,400 followers, and 954,127 across nine Facebook pages, every salon page rated 100% recommended, the main page carrying 10,335 reviews counted on 5 October 2026. @nhattamhairsalon on Instagram holds 28,000. Open any of them and check. The breakdown is in where to check our real numbers, and real hairstyle results shows how to read a result photo.

Booking from abroad: send your photos and chemical history before you travel and ask for a written estimate. English support is on request. If hair type is your worry, start with the guide to fine, thick and textured hair.

Frequently asked questions

Will a statement cut suit fine hair?

Some will. Blunt shapes and a chin length bob usually flatter fine hair because they keep weight. Heavy internal layering is the one to approach carefully, since removing weight thins the ends.

Can I bring a photograph from Instagram or Pinterest?

Yes, and please do. Bring one you dislike as well. We will tell you which parts come from the cut and which from styling or editing.

How long does a women’s design cut take?

Usually 60 to 90 minutes including wash and blow dry styling. A fringe added at the end takes a further 10 to 15 minutes.

Can you cut a fringe if I am only in Hanoi for one day?

Yes. A fringe is the one statement element that fits in a single short appointment, and the easiest to adjust later.

Is English support available?

Yes, on request. Mention it when you book so it is arranged in advance rather than on arrival.
