Ba Dinh holds most of Hanoi’s embassies, a large diplomatic and NGO community, and the serviced apartments around Lieu Giai, Kim Ma and Ngoc Khanh that go with them. If you are looking for a hair salon in Ba Dinh that will consult in English and quote a firm price before starting, Nhat Tam is about ten minutes south in Dong Da. A designer cut is 150K after the standard discount, chemical work carries a written warranty of up to 90 days, and the price list is public.

Below: why Ba Dinh residents usually end up looking outside the district, the route and timings, the full price table, what a first appointment actually involves, and the questions diplomatic families ask us most.

Why Ba Dinh Residents Often Look Just Outside the District
Ba Dinh is administrative Hanoi. The mausoleum, the ministries, the embassy streets and the Lotte Center anchor it, and the residential pockets around Ngoc Khanh, Giang Vo, Kim Ma and Truc Bach have a high concentration of foreign families on posting. It is also a district where commercial rent is high and the retail mix leans towards hotels, offices and diplomatic services rather than neighbourhood salons.
The result is a familiar squeeze. The salons inside Ba Dinh that cater to the international community tend to price accordingly, while the neighbourhood shops are priced for locals but are not set up for a consultation in English. Very few sit in the middle, which is why so many Ba Dinh residents end up crossing into Dong Da or Tay Ho for anything more involved than a trim.
There is a second reason particular to this district. Diplomatic postings run two to four years, which means people arrive with an established hair routine from another country and need to rebuild it here, often with a different climate acting on the same head of hair. That is a consultation, not a transaction, and it needs a shared language.
Getting Here From Ba Dinh
Nhat Tam is at 89 Nguyen Hy Quang, O Cho Dua, Dong Da, beside Hoang Cau lake. Ba Dinh borders Dong Da directly, so this is one of the shortest trips of any district: roughly eight to twelve minutes from Kim Ma, Ngoc Khanh or the Lotte Center outside peak hours, and around fifteen from Truc Bach or the mausoleum area.
The route most drivers take runs down Giang Vo or La Thanh to the O Cho Dua junction, then a couple of minutes to Hoang Cau. The Cat Linh metro terminus sits almost exactly between the two districts if you would rather avoid the road entirely for part of the trip.
One note on addresses. Vietnam reorganised its local administrative units in 2025, so newer paperwork and some map layers now label these areas as wards rather than districts. Residents, taxi drivers and ride-hailing apps all still use the familiar names, and so does our address. If a form asks for something that does not match what you see on a map, the street number and street name are the parts that matter.
Give a driver Hoang Cau lake as the landmark, then the street number. The Hanoi branch is open 9:00 to 20:00, every day.
The Price List

What a First Appointment Involves
If you have just arrived on posting, the first visit is mostly diagnostic. The stylist checks hair porosity before any chemical service, which tells us how quickly your hair will absorb colour and how much it can take. Hair that was fine under a dry European or North American climate often behaves quite differently after a few months of Hanoi humidity, and porosity is where that shows up first.
Bring photographs: one of your hair as it is now in natural light, and one or two of what you want. Also bring the name of anything chemical done in the last six months, particularly bleach, because previous lightening dictates what is realistically achievable in one session.
Expect the appointment to be longer than you are used to. A Vietnamese salon wash is a proper ten to fifteen minute affair with a head massage, and it is included in the price rather than added to it. Our first-timer’s guide explains the whole sequence, and the tipping guide answers the question most new arrivals are too polite to ask.
Prices are confirmed before any work starts, including if you add something mid-appointment. Nobody should be surprised at the counter.

The Warranty, and Why It Suits Short Postings
Perm and straightening carry 90 days. Bleach and colour carry 30 days. Haircuts carry a 7 day free adjustment. Inside those windows the correction is free, and the policy is published rather than promised verbally.
For people on a fixed posting this matters more than the headline price. If you are in Hanoi for two years, a salon that will correct its own work is worth considerably more than one that is 100K cheaper and treats a bad result as your problem. It also means the first appointment carries less risk: if the tone is not what you agreed, you come back rather than living with it.
The exclusions are straightforward. A change of mind about the shade is not a warranty claim, and damage from home bleaching afterwards is not covered. We will tell you honestly before starting whether a result is achievable in one session on your hair.

Nhat Tam price list, after the standard discount

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there an English speaking hair salon near Ba Dinh?
Nhat Tam is about ten minutes from Kim Ma, Ngoc Khanh and the Lotte Center, at 89 Nguyen Hy Quang in Dong Da. Stylists consult in working English and you can request one when booking on Messenger.
How long does it take to get there from the embassy area?
Roughly eight to twelve minutes from Kim Ma, Ngoc Khanh or Lieu Giai outside peak hours, and around fifteen from Truc Bach or the mausoleum area. Ba Dinh borders Dong Da directly, so it is one of the shorter trips in the city.
What does a haircut cost?
A women’s designer cut, including wash and blow-dry, is 250K on the list and 150K after booking ahead and checking in, roughly 6 US dollars. A men’s cut is 200K and 100K, roughly 4 dollars. Foreign guests pay the published price.
Do you do event and formal styling?
Yes. Event and bridal styling is quoted individually because it depends on the look and the timing. Our wedding hair guide sets out the usual timeline and what to ask for. For evening functions, book the slot well ahead.
I have just arrived in Hanoi. Will my usual colour still work here?
Possibly not in the same way. Humidity changes how hair behaves and how it holds tone, so the stylist checks porosity before any chemical service. Bring a photo of your current hair in natural light and the details of anything chemical done in the last six months.
What is covered if something goes wrong?
Perm and straightening carry a 90 day warranty, bleach and colour 30 days, and haircuts a 7 day free adjustment. Corrections inside those windows cost nothing. A change of mind about the shade, or damage from home bleaching afterwards, is not covered.
